Dr. Bevin Butler is the Assistant Professor of Art History at Tennessee Tech University. She holds a BA and MA in Art History from the University of North Texas and a PhD in Art History, Theory, and Criticism from Arizona State University. Her research interrogates the historic associations of textiles with femininity, the historiography pertaining to nuns’ contributions to the arts in the Middle Ages, and ways in which embroideries and tapestries produced by nuns subverted traditional church hierarchies. As the sole art history professor at Tennessee Tech, Bevin teaches courses ranging from large sections of the Gen-Ed Art Appreciation to upper-level History of Printmaking, Medieval Art History, History of Craft, and History of Design.
