Susan Hughes

A California native living in the south for half her life, Susan’s first oil painting at age 10 was a Spanish Riding School of Vienna Lipizzan performing a capriole with materials provided by an insightful and artistic grandmother. Reading every horse book in the local library, galloping and neighing when feeling most free and immersing into the horse world since, including years of daily care taking of many horses and intensely intuitive bodywork on her most recent horse partner, she developed a tactile and emotional understanding that reflects in her work. Over the years Susan’s paintings have become looser and more abstract and expressive, showing a level of confidence and maturity in her work whether equine or landscape focused. Has been represented by Tanner Hill Gallery in Chattanooga, TN, Crossgate Gallery in Lexington, KY, Frameworks Gallery in Atlanta, GA & Portrait’s Inc. New York, NY and Birmingham, AL. B.F.A. with focus on drawing and painting from California College of Arts, Oakland/San Francisco, CA.
